New Thai café and eatery set to come to Reading in the New Year

London-based chain Rosa’s Thai has long had designs to open the historic Jackson’s Corner building, with hoardings around the unit appearing in May

Now the company has revealed that the restaurant will open in the heart of the town centre in February 2025.

Of the launch, Saiphin Moore, the founder of Rosa’s Thai said: “When I first saw the Jackson’s Corner site, I was immediately taken with the history of the building, it reminded me of when we opened our first restaurant and kept the sign to honour the previous owners.

“To have the opportunity to open a Rosa’s Thai in such a historic Reading landmark is truly an honour.

“We are excited to bring our authentic Thai flavours and warm hospitality to this vibrant community and become a part of its ongoing story.”

Guests can expect an extensive range of tasty noodle and curry dishes along with appetisers such as crispy pork bites and prawn doughnuts.

The menu also features an extensive selection of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes, with spice levels ranging from ‘a bit of a kick’ to ‘Thai spicy,’ allowing guests to customise their meals.

Ahead of opening, Rosa’s Thai is offering 50 per cent off food during its soft launch from Tuesday, January 21 to Sunday, February 2.

Diners can make use of the soft launch offer by signing up for the Rosa’s Thai Reading mailing list.

The coming of the business has been known for years, with the company winning permission to serve food and alcohol from 11am to 11.30pm on Monday to Saturday and 11am to 10.30pm on Sundays from Reading Borough Council’s licensing department in 2022.

To drink, guests can enjoy Thai-inspired cocktails, bubble teas, wine, Singha on tap, house ‘Thai-PA’ and ‘Mai Mao’ beers and Thai iced teas.

The restaurant has space to seat 72 guests.

Rosa’s Thai food was available in the summer of 2021 for delivery only as part of a ‘Deliveroo Editions’ partnership, which only functioned on a temporary basis.

Once the restaurant is open in February, food will be available for delivery, click-and-collect, and takeaway.

Jackson’s Corner has been a renowned landmark in Reading since it first housed a family-owned department store in 1875.

The department store closed down in December 2013, clearing the way for it to be redeveloped to provide 34 luxury apartments and new retail space

The first business to move to Jackson’s Corner this year was Xpression Hair and Beauty, which moved from its previous premises in Queen Victoria Street.

The burger chain Fat Hippo is also set to open at Jackson’s Corner, winning approval for advertising and kitchen extraction plans from councillors in January.
