Top 10 Reading streets and car parks with most parking fines in 2024/25 revealed

Each year, Reading Borough Council releases figures for how many parking fines were issued over 12 months as part of its annual parking services report.

The latest covers the 2024/25 financial year.

The most fines were issued in Oxford Road, which stretches for miles from the town centre to the borough boundary with Purley-on-Thames.

The figures show 4,649 penalty charge notice (PCN) fines were issued along the road in 2024/25.

These fines were variously issued for parking rule breaches, drivers who stopped along the council’s red route, which bans parking at any time, and driving into bus lanes.

After Oxford Road, town centre streets dominate the top 10, with 1,306 fines issued in Friar Street, 1,175 in Sackville Street and 1,078 in Castle Street.

After that, the amount of fines decreases to under 1,000, with 973 being issued in King’s Road.

Hundreds of fines were also issued at two of the council’s car parks, with 773 being issued at Hills Meadow in Caversham, and 693 at the ‘civic B car park’ in Castle Street.

Prices for the fines are broken down into higher and lower level contraventions.

Lower-level fines are set at £50, with higher-level fines being set at £70.

These can be reduced to a discount rate of £25 and £35 respectively if paid within 21 days of issue.
