K&K Supermarket, a shop that sold Vietnamese and ‘Asean’ food in St Mary’s Butts, has been converted into the new restaurant Pho 86.
The website for Pho 86 states: “Our story started with a craving. After settling in the UK, our founders missed the soulful flavours of home — the slow-simmered broths, the fragrance of fresh herbs, the unmistakable warmth of a family meal.
“These dishes carried memories of Vietnam: street-side pho stalls, weekend meals with loved ones, and recipes passed down through generations.

“So we opened Pho 86 to bring that same spirit to life — a space where authentic Vietnamese flavours and heartfelt hospitality come together.
“Since then, Pho 86 has become a welcoming spot for homesick hearts, curious food lovers, and anyone searching for a genuine, lovingly prepared Vietnamese meal.
“Every dish we serve is made with care, tradition, and time-honoured technique.”
The restaurant opened at the end of July, with a photo shared online showing a celebratory balloon arch and the first customers enjoying their meals.

The owners have applied to start serving alcohol with meals from 11am to 10pm each day of the week.
The application has been submitted to Reading Borough Council’s licensing department, and is subject to a statutory consultation.
